Dhaka Update 2
the first real day in Dhaka.
It was a day of mixed emotions, a lot of bonding with everyone on the group, and a lot of shopping by the girls (and certain boys!).......
I just realised that this is my first tropical city! hmmm...... where did that come from... hehee... ok... choronologically
We woke up... and met a lott of people... and found out that milk is called "doodh" is bengali... imagine the "interesting" conversations!
Wwe headed out in the city. Dhaka: It seems busier than Karachi, yet it is green as Lahore.... yet humid!! the traffic is clogged!!! and you tend to see colour a lot all around you... The first thing we did was to go to Dhaka's biggest shopping mall!! which is the biggest in south asia, and apparntly 8th largest in the world..... and as luck would have it, the only weekly holiday it had was yesterday :P (like ghost wala nagha!)...... yet there we were hanging around the world's 8th largest shopping mall.... riding escalators to the top just for kicks.... with everything closed, other than the cineplex and food court open..... this place was huge!!!!!!!!!!!! we can fit more than 3 Pace in that building.... and i dont know 7 floors!!! or 8!! But then we reached the top, and realised what Emund Hillary must have felt when he went to the top of Moun Everest....... "THAT'S IT?!!!!!" :P
anyways... we went to the elephant road to have our bengali lunch!... and we did it the bengali way... eating chawal by hands.... hahaha... freaked out everyone but we managed :)
Then we went to the University of Dhaka... the place has a lot of history; from the Separation of Bengal in colonial india, to the creation of Pakistan, to the dimemberment of Bangladesh! The campus is HUGE!!!! huger than we can all imagine.. 30,000 strong student body!!!! and has every possible department you can think of Economics, Zoology, Medicine, Science.... et.al. it was a city within a city..... Now there were palates all over the place for the struggle of Bangladesh! it seemed weird by watching history from the other side.... "this is the place where all started... the canteen!"....... "so who' s this statue of, a faculty member obviously?" Turab asked...... "No, he used to work in canteen"........ Heroes out of what the died for...... still, I am not being disrepectful of anything; just a little weird to see things a lot differently.......
Anyway.... we went around the campus, with Turab telling us about the historical significance of everything...... and me emanating the holy word of Tony!! apparently Tony was previously known as "Sher Khan" by another group... fascinating...!!! Then the shopping started!! damn it..... we went to this place called, i forgot... where underprivileged women make stuff earn mo-ney.. and people wen crazy...... dunno what the heck they bought..... i only managd a t-shirt for myself (note to anyone who is expecting any gifts! :D)... and AMMAr (zafar)... i did see he gay t-shirts, which can proudly be the fore-runners of my gay t-shirt collection... but they were too gay man!!! even for you! believe me!!! (so you are not getting any!)
nyways... after we came back.... it was an interesting night.... hmmm..... the brotherhood shall not be broken.... but all we can say is that it continued from 11 to 4 in the morning.... and imagine all thetas and instuctors..... so that was fun... seriously :)
me out for now... more later....
Indians and Sri Lankans come today.....
more later

Man, there isn't an outrageously colourful T-shirt printed yet thats too gay for me! Interesting about the 'Sher Khan' though. I raise a motion on the T.Inc EB that at JNC one of the Tony aliases used be Sher Khan. Not original I know, but it'll show solidarity with like minded bretheren
